There is an increasing interest from consumers, industry and policy makers in replacing animal-sourced products with plant-based alternatives, driven by a concern for the consequences of meat production, in particular, climate change and biodiversity loss.

But does the attempt to deal with climate issues by replacing meat or dairy with plant-based processed foods create other problems for consumers in terms of the healthiness, safety and palatability of diets?
